View Full Version : new years resolutions

presto
31st December 2005, 02:16
so come on, what resolution will you lot be making (and probably be braking by mid january :) ).

for me:
give up smoking - a nasty little habbit, i gave up in november / december for about 3 weeks and found it quite easy. but having a few decks of duty free lying about the place wasn't ideal :mover

socialise more - i have become a right boring git as of late, so go out more - but go a little easier on the drink, and only have moderate (as opposed to monster) binge drinking sessions.

get in shape - sitting on your :butthead: does wonders for a beer belly. i am no health freak, but i know i should do more for my health.

betting - continue to improve / learn. stay diciplined and start to kick ass in poker.

find a nice girl :hearty (or 2 :D )

My resolution is the same as it is every year.

Try to ensure this time next year I am in a position at least no worse than Im in now and preferably better. That counts in all aspects of my life.

Lose weight. More than anything this is what I need to do. At 20 stone 7 I really feel it in the old knees and hips sometimes, plus being out of breath just walking up 2 flights of stairs. And given my family history on my mums side I should have started sorting this sooner - her 1st heart attack at 39, 4th and fatal one at 53. I only hope I have more of my genetic make up from my dad's side - still fit at 70, and his parents both made it to 88. We'll see.... giving up pizza, curries, Chinese, and red meat ain't going to be easy.

To start a racing forum where friendly people can meet up, and talk about the days racing, have chats, become friends........alas, this may be too much to ask, the one I have now is full of grumpy buggers :laugh :laugh

Follow in Presto's footsteps for NYR's. :)

Socialise more - I would love to socialise more but I'm usually too tired to go out. Not getting enough sleep doesn't help either. So that's get earlier nights, and thus be more active to go out...

Get in shape - I really should join the gym. Though I've said I will for the last 3 years and haven't yet.

Betting - interesting one this, isn't it? Can only bet on weekends because I don't have access at work. Rather than follow a system that requires daily dedication (that I obviously can't give) I might re-kickstart my method bets (football being priority).

Find a nice girl - one with a nice personality, good dress sense, good looks, who is original and different.

Bless me.

Stopped smoking last year and stuck to it. I only smoked cigars but I was glad I did it.
This year's resolution is to get down to 16 stone. BigC I was 21 stone when I got back off holiday, I'm now 17.5, well I was before christmas intervened.:yikes:

1.
Get fit again. I have always been into Wado-Ryu (Karate) and Kendo (Japanese Sword Fighting) but the past six months, I have kind of fallen out of training a bit, and dont feel as good.

2.
Improve my gambling bank balance. I want to spend more time on both win2win and my own systems etc. And would like to at least double the bank of one of my own systems (I will be investing some money in it in January)

3.
Learn to make a new meal every week. I tried this last year, and it worked for a while, then I got lazy. The idea being, if you keep it up, you will know how to cook 52 new dishes by next year, which would be fantastic, as I love cooking my own food. May also make for a nice thread:)

I VERY rarely make new year's resolutions but this year I have decided to get things in order and finish all the spreadsheets I have started or designed mentally. I have a lot of good work half-done or just in my head and I must find the dedication to get it all done.

I have started down that route today by going back through all my lays and adding in the SP so I have accurate overlay figures. Only another 7973 to go...

Big C you KNOW you have to lose weight and get a check.. go to the doc and get a blood pressure, cholesterol etc check.. with your mother`s medical history you HAVE TO.. and a really bad one like that cancels out some of the positive genes on your father`s side. You know this really. it`s easy to go into denial and say, oh well, I expect I have inherited my Dad``s genes..
I took my husband1s BP about 18 months ago with a home machine.. I tok it six times over a yweek then sent him to the Doc.. he had all the checks, he was told to lose a stone, which he did, put on 2 sorts of tablets, inckuding statins, and told to walk a mile a day.. which he more or less does...
He went back just before Christmas for one of his checks and the doc told him he was so pleased with all the results that if he didn`t get run over by a bus he would live till 90.... so it is worth doing something. You can do something. You are going to do something. But don`t try without help or incentive .. get the GP on side.
We need you on the forum Big C. Now tell me when you have made that appointment.

1st January 2006, 22:14
Thanks for your concern Susan:) I do get my BP checked regularly anyway as it was high when I was in my 20's, but that was down to the booze at the time - it's been normal now for years. I don't drink anything like as often as I did then, though I do have the odd blowout at a concert. My cholesterol is OK, could be slightly lower, but not too bad. I will get the weight off, as I'd love to get back to Iceland at some time in the next few years, and can't be doing all that walking if I'm this overweight!

Never really cared about money in the first place you young upstart:D The important point is that now I have focused my somewhat scatterbrained puzzle solving approach to life it will happen wether I like it or not! :doh

Money is only a tool to get to the next stage of the things I would like to do.

Discipline, my biggest downfall, reckon Id be light years ahead of where I am now if I,d mastered that little act. Trouble is Im going to have to totally change my lifestyle to have any kind of discipline in my life, should say the discipline to be able to sleep at regular hours and not stay up to Daft O,Clock in the morning nearly all the time, it throws your focus out of the window.

To do exactly the opposite of what Government departments and quangoes advise.

Starting with when they came out with "don't drink too much at New Year" - I got more hammered than I have all year!

When I woke up I had 2 sausage and egg (both fried) sandwiches on white bread, loads of butter and plenty salt.

And as for "your money is safe in the bank" - I resolve only to have debts with the banks, any credit will be in Betfair and gold.

I might even take up smoking again....
