My second attempt at this. In my first attempt, I got the bank to over £3000, but it dropped back down below £2000 at which stage I took the money and ran.
This is a lay system I have been working on for over six months and have high hopes for. Up until today, after 370 lays, only 37 of them won, so the SR is quite high (90%) which I'm very happy about. I'm not sure if it will work as good during the NH season, but we shall see :)

Selections will be posted most days before lunchtime.
* No horse will be layed over 10.5* (*Changed to 10.0 from 23rd October 2006)
* Backers stake is 1% of the bank adjusted daily [NOTE: Bank split in 3 from post 198]
* 5% commission will be assumed

Thanks Jonny. This is a system, and was working extremely well on the flat. Soon after I posted it here, the NH season started, and it went downhill for a couple of weeks. I originally considered scrapping it, believing it was only good on flat, but with hindsight, it looks like it was the season change-over and unreliable form that was the problem. Next year, I will only paper trade during october/early november. The NH lays and flat are pretty much even now. It seems to do particulary well on All Weather, which is something I'm going to look into further. Thankfully, its back in flying form and all losses have been recovered. Onwards and upwards from now on hopefully. I do this with real money too, and I hope the staring bank has doubled by the new year (or is at least £1600) . The name change is something to do with my return to work in the new year, where we are not allowed to use gambling sites. (It will be less obvious if I dont use my full name as a username!)
Thanks for popping in, its helps keep me on my toes if I feel people are checking now and again.

Thanks mat. It just goes to show that long term thinking is definitely required in this game. As I said earlier, when the bank dropped from nearly £1200 to around £770 as soon as the NH season hit, I was about to drop it. Thankfully, I kept it going to see a nice speedy recovery. Looking at my P&L graphs, the zig-zag in a slightly downward fasion occured during october-mid november, but then leveled out and started to rise back up as normal. Just a blip hopefully :)

Thats right mat. I do this with real money, and made the mistake in real life, so I'll let it stand as mistakes are part of gambling sometimes and I like to factor them in when they happen. Not sure what I done wrong there. :splapme Won't really make too much of a difference anyway.

Easy mistake to make and the difference to the figures will probably be pennies anyway so don't worry about it. As you say, it's best to factor these mistakes into the recorded figures. Mistakes will happen so there is no point pretending they won't and the figures should accurately reflect what has happened.
Keep this up anyway Wayne, it's looking pretty good so far :)

If you do decide to follow it, it goes without saying that small stakes and a bank you can afford to lose are a must.
I have found that the best approach is to use 1% of the bank as the backers stake (adjusted at the end of the days racing). I normally post the selections at about 12, but could e-mail them to you earlier/the night before if needs be.
I'm not sure what your commission rate is, but the profit is a fair bit better with a lower rate (I trial everything to 5% for good practice though)

Wayne, is there a notiecable difference in the results on all weather to the rest? Just curious with yesterdays bad luck as to whether the AW is less profitable. I suppose generally you have to contend with the fact that quite often the fave is no lower than 4,5 even 6/1 meaning the race is a bit more open as regards who can win it.

I'll have to have a good look back over it Matt to find out. This system started life on the flat and was in flying form (at home) , it does not seem to be as good on the NH however, and has been up and down since the season change-over. I'll have to check out the AW.

Cheers Matt. Since splitting the banks ( a couple of weeks ago) the AW selections have done the best. The NH is showing a slight loss, and the flat season has not started yet. It would probably be a good idea to split the bank up in 3 (A bank for AW, NH and Flat). Maybe you could be a bit more cautious with your NH bank, it's up to yourself.
Last year, the flat season performed extremely well indeed, so I'm looking forward to that starting again. Overall, the NH has been quite static this season, but I'll keep going until the end of the season, and see if I can spot anything then.
Staking wise, I would advise that you use 1% of each respective bank as the backers stake, adjusted daily. I think you are around long enough to know that a small bank you are willing to lose is a must :)
My cutt-off is 10.0.

Thanks Wayne. Good idea to use three seperate banks, hadn't decided on that as only NH selections today but I will do that. Makes sense at it is really three distinctive types.
Thanks for the info on cut off and %, and like you say, the bank is one I'm willing (prepared sounds better :laugh ) to lose.

FAO MATT:
Matt, I have had a long hard look at the NH season results since Ocotber, and these are definitely the bets that are bringing the overall bank down. There is no point in dragging them along any further, risking the overall profits, so all NH bets are discontinued as of today.
The Flat season perfored well (last year) so I'd expect more of the same when it starts up again. The AW is consistent year-round too showing a healthy return, and I don't see any reason for this to change.
The remaining overall bank is now £1046.40. I will use 1% of this as the daily backers stake from now on for the all weather selections, and I will consider splitting the bank in 2 when the Flat season starts in a couple of months.
Unfortunately, had the NH bets been left out for the season, the bank would now be above £3000. However, we live and learn - and I have learned that NH does not work for this system.

Mat, I know you have set up a bank for this, and are probably wondering why things have been so quiet. As you know, I dropped the NH bets as they were not making much money. Even though I am continuing with the AW lays, there have been very few qualifiers of late, as a lot of the races don't meet the criteria. In order to save you checking the site every day for selections, I could e-mail you the evening before if you wish and tell you if there will be qualifiers or not. You can get my e-mail address by clicking on my profiile should you wish to do this.
When the flat season comes around, there will be pleny of selections, and if last year is anything to go by, there is potential for some good profit :)
