:yikes: Watched these last night......I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing this 'historic' band around in 20-30 years time......the singer has a vocal range of non, the guitarists don't know many chords, best of them was the bass player.......and the drummers kit...or should I say WHAT kit :hahaha

Thank God the Spice Girls are coming back :irish:

Must admit I can't see what the fuss is about either.... over hyped mediocrity. And the Arctic Monkeys are just as bad... :laugh

But we know youre comparing them with Steve Harris and Nicko McBrain...slightly unfair Keith!:laugh I dont think they are too bad...I hope they wont be around in 30 years...if only someone can tell that to The Rolling Stones now....

Actually got hold of the 2 Maiden albums last weekend when Blaze Bayley was the singer...music doesnt sound that bad but his voice just isnt the same at all is it. Again a little unfair though eh! :ooo

I'm going to have to disagree with you there Scooby... last Stones album was a stormer, probably the best they've done in over 20 years, and they're still one of the best live bands around. :)

Must admit I'm not a fan of the Blaze era Maiden stuff either... but then again I'm an old git when it comes to Maiden and still prefer the first 2 albums as that was when I first saw them live - 4 or 5 times in 1980-81. Most of Bruce's albums wih the band are excellent... especially the newest one, but you still can't beat that debut album.

Comparing it wih my kit, only started learning guitar end of last year, and already play better than that lot, drums I've worked with all my life, and learning keyboard now.....no time for sleep......been on pep pills since '86 :ooo

No problem bigc...its all about opinions....thank goodness for that eh :)

I thought the last Maiden album was very good, but I do probably like Number of the Beast and I love Piece of Mind...reminds me of when I was young! I actually saw Blaze when he was in Wolfsbane a few times at The Marquee Club...long time ago now!:ermmm

Of all the Brucie albums that or Seventh Son would be my faves, and the new one to make the top 3. From what I hear the band are taking a year off to plan their new album... and are hinting at a return to Powerslave style... Bruce told the Download festivel crowd they were taking a year off to build a pyramid... sounds tasty to me!

Cant disagree with any of that....Powerslave is excellent album. I have seen them twice, once at Hammersmith Odeon in 86 I think, Somewhere in time tour, another fine album...and then at Donnington in 88. They are without doubt one of the best live bands I have seen...supreme talent. Steve Harris...amazing bass player and the strings he uses are really thick...I tried playing with them once and my God...he must have some strong fingers I tell you! :laugh

Powerslave was the first album of theirs I got after a friend at school played it to me. After that I got all their previous stuff. Favourite album for me would be between Powerslave, Seventh Son, Somewhere In Time and Number of the Beast I think, although that may change depending what week it is :laugh As to favourite songs there are so many. Trooper, Run to the Hills, Drifter, Prisoner, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Only the good die young, I'll stop cos this list could go on a while! Went off them during the Blaze years but they've come back as good as ever since Bruce returned I think. My musical tastes have broadened a bit since back then when it was heavy metal or nothing, but I still like them as much as I ever did.

Steve Harris...amazing bass player

Definitely.. first band I was in we did Running Free and Run to The Hills... first on was easy enough but RTTH has that mental fingering style he does so well and I reckon I needed 2 more fingers on my right hand to cope with it! Wrathchild is a good one to play as well, love that opening riff!

Dont envy you with Run to the Hills bigc! The thing is he does that for over 2 hours a night for god knows how many dates and I bet he doesnt even feel it...wonder what those fingers will be like when he gets a bit older! :laughWe did Wrathchild...great song to do and one of the...shall I say eaiser ones to do! :wink I saw them on channel 4 about month ago and he said he only uses 2 fingers...some think he uses more but no. Absolutely amazing.

Yes I dont like the Blaze era as much but listened to The Clansman last night from Virtual XI and the music is fantastic in my opinion...would love to hear Bruce sing that song.

Certainly. :D

Double ententres, unneccessarily over-the-top extroversion and the need to speak incredibly loudly to people sat near him (like in J Ross last night) does not make someone funny! It gets so tiring because it's obvious he tries so hard to be funny... and most of the time he's not. The only thing I like about him is his dress sense. :)

Have to say I saw Iggy and thought he was great....Im a fan now! Saw some on Glastonbury as well. Its raw but I liked it...how uncomfortable did that guy look in the suit when Iggy was bearing down on him on Jon Ross!!:laugh

Saw The Killers last night as well...thought they were good a well.

Although I do think Brand is a knob...I did find some of it funny with Ross...I know Im off for a lie down! :splapme Though.... I dont think he would be funny in a live show at all...

John

How come you think Brandon's a knob!?

Yeah I saw The Killers too - what was he wearing... very good live performance though. Brandon reminds me of a small child who's trying to be a rockstar but portrays too much of a "good boy, nice boy" image. :)

Brandon reminds me of a small child who's trying to be a rockstar but portrays too much of a "good boy, nice boy" image. :)He is a mormon so the usual rock star excesses of booze, cigarettes and drugs aren't really his scene which may explain the nice boy image.

How come you think Brandon's a knob!?He doesn't so that makes what I said about him being a mormon etc all rather irrelevant. Scoobs reckons Russell Brand is a :icon_tong :splapme.

Russell Brand is a pillock though, as is David Walliams. It's amazing how two of the most annoying camp it up a bit :icon_tongs can have had so many fit women though.

No as Mat said, I dont think Brandon is... Russel Brand I shouldve put. I like The Killers a lot though I dont think the second album is as good as the first one imho. Funnily enough when Ive heard them live on tv, I havent thought they sound really great but my brother went to see them when they opened for U2 in Wales 2 years ago and he said they were amazing....would love to hear what someone thought they were like who were there last night.

It is weird how if you find your feminine side....to say the least, in Walliams and Brand...the girls go for you? Good luck to em anyway. :rolleyes:I find Walliams more annoying...he seems to want to belittle people when I have seen him away from Little Britain ...on Friday Night Project the other day we was a bit of a :icon_tong...didnt seem to play the game at all really.

MattR

Maybe it was because of the bigger cast in the Fast Show and more characters, not sure. There were some superb ones in the fast show and also the sketches were better I think and had a lot more variety to them. One the one hand you Ted and Ralph which was almost tragic comedy then you'd have the innuendo of the Suit You Sir to the off the wall Spanish Satellite show with the scorchio. The lines seem to have lasted too such as I'll get me coat.

I also saw The Killers live in Cardiff and they were indeed excellent. I've seen them at Nottingham arena and again they were brilliant. I've never rated their TV performances but I thought they were very good last night. I think Sam's Town is as good if not better than Hot Fuss.

Cheers Mat/Rick - got my wires crossed there! But understand now. Blond moment. :laugh

The Fast Show was superb... but I've never really watched Little Britain so can't really comment.

Interesting Sparks that you think Sam's Town lives up to Hot Fuss. All down to a matter of opinion, but I don't think it's nearly as good. For me, they tried too hard to make ST different, when there was no need. Hot Fuss went 4x platinum didn't it? So why the need for change? Maybe they wanted to try something new, sure... but I just can't get to grips with Sam's Town.

Only just seen this but i'm going to throw in my two cents.

I think they are very good at what they do. They arent the best musically by a long shot but they are very own to earth and its very easy to pick up on what they are singing about. The songs they write relate to everyday experiences of most pre 30's people today. Thats why they are so popular.

Also, they're going round saying 'We're the best thing to happen to music, ever' like some people that have recently after only releasing two albums.

I think theres alot more over-rated bands out there. Lots of whispy voiced singers and some utter drivel for lyrics. Trying to appear deep and meaningful when, to me, they just appear to be up their own backsides.

:thumbs
