Better start a new thread I think…with the other gone to 6 pages…

For Wednesday footy bet, I am gonna stay in Wales, and go non-league , to boot...:yikes:

Newport County host Maidenhead – and this ought to be a home win for the Exiles…

Newport are expecting a good goal tally this year with a decent looking attacking line-up. They have a newish defence set-up, including the keeper…and they did well to hold Bishops Stortford (away) to a bore-draw last weekend.

Meanwhile, Maidenhead lost 1-0 at home to Fisher, albeit losing in the 89th minute…the reports suggest there was sloppy defending throughout and their manager typified it by calling them ¨Sunday Morning Defenders¨…

They wont relish crossing the Severn Bridge Wednesday night – that’s for sure – and to make it worse they have to pay the bridge toll on the way in…..:laugh

Just quickly…..They have 5 head-to-heads…

NEWPORT WON 4 OF THEM (3 AT HOME AND 1 AWAY)
1 DRAW AT MAIDENHEAD

1.83 is widely available, and everything looks set for a NEWPORT WIN…

Fair bit of diversity there Merlin. I was thinking of keeping it simple and going for Man City @ 1.64 ish.

Thought I might have been in for 5 points when Raith went to extra time with 10 men but it wasn't to be.

Merlin
15th August 2007, 03:02
I looked at that Man City game...and thought it could be a draw..but passed it over, as I did with the Premier games Wednesday - they look tricky to me...:yikes:.......

Good luck, Man City may win...but 1.64 is short to my mind....Derby are no pushovers, they are hard to beat..and I do fancy them to stay in the Premiership...:yikes:

Unlucky with the Raith prediction...see the other * Merlin* had full points......think I get 2 points for the away goal scored....

monty
15th August 2007, 14:25
The Man City price is far to short for me as well. I think the club and fans have high expectations this season, but you can never underestimate the new boys? They will always want to prove themselves to everyone just to show they are worthy of being in the Premiership.

The early kick off between Spartak Moscow v’s Celtic appeals to me more. I think Celtic will find this a very hard match, and they will be lucky to come away with anything from this game. Celtic has had a great record at home while playing in Europe, but their away form has been dire.

I’ve not had a Monty bet for a while so here one today

Spartak Moscow to win (1.94) @ Betfair

With the Rangers game last night, I was feeling more and more confident about it as kick off drew nearer and so it proved, albeit only just. With the Man City game I have the opposite feeling and I will be passing on that game now.

BOTAFOGO 2 – 3 CORINTHIANS....

Doh.......at 8.30pm last night we had a thunderstorm which knocked out our electricity supply….everything was restored within an hour – bar the internet connection……..it has now come....22 hours later…..

I now have tons to catch up on (as all my income is gained either directly or indirectly… one way or another on-line)…

I just see I missed out on a winning footy bet tonight….as I mentioned on another thread the other day , I was planning to bet Cambridge @ 2.80….they beat Oxford 2-1…..(sorry Caged…:laugh)……..that would have been a 6 point bet – and recovered yesterdays losses……

I guess I am pissed off right now…..:laugh

The Emerald Isle is gonna host my Friday Footy Betting – and I will need a good dose of Irish good fortune to come away a winner, to boot. (you will see why when you see my bets :laugh)

However, it is the 3rd round of the FAI Cup and I am hoping for at least 1 prima facie shock.

I will be having 3 bets – here they are:

Bray v St Patricks

Along with Cork City , St Pats are one of my favourite teams in Ireland, and for a while they led the premier division. Not sure whats happened to them… (there are rumours of player unease – what the issue are… I don’t know) .

They are clearly on a downward curve at the mo…Not only have they lost their title aspirations, but got stuffed in a European game too…….Mind you, Bray are not the most consistent of teams – but they have a couple of players coming back, most notably; Colm Tresson – and @ 5/2 are worth a tickle…
......................................................................................................................................

Limerick 37 v Douglas Hall

This tie is First Division v non-league……and naturally the league side; Limerick are favourites, and home , too.

But they play DOUGLAS HALL who are one of , if not the biggest non-league side in Cork, and they have a good tradition of doing well in this Cup. In actual fact , in the last round they beat a very good Cobh Ramblers side (Cobh are top of the 1st Divsion, currently).

7/1 is available, but when Betfair wakes up Friday afternoon, they may go to twice that…..
.........................................................................................................................................................

Cork v Kilkenny

The last game with a very small interest is the Cork v Kilkenny game.

Now Kilkenny are the whipping boys of Irish league soccer, they have only won 3 games all season (from 24) and are not surprisingly propping up the 1st Division.

However, even though Cork should win this game standing on their heads…..@ 1/5 is a no.no.no.no.no.no.no. Bet….

Since losing Roy O’Donovan , Cork have really struggled to score goals….and they could easily get done with a solitary goal here….

Last time out, Kilkenny beat Limerick 2-0 , and this may have put the fire in their belly…

HOME WIN @ 5/2 = 4 POINTS

Limerick 37 v Douglas Hall
AWAY WIN @ 7/1 = 1 POINTS

PS: Will wait for Betfair to get a bigger price on DOUGLAS HALL…

Merlin
17th August 2007, 03:46
I do think BRAY will win…S…..

Of course the other 2 are hoping for shocks…but they do have a squeak…..

CORK have been beaten at odds-on a few time already this summer……(I know, it cost me once)…:laugh…and as I said about Douglas Hall…they are non-league Cup specialists…..well kind of…:laugh

Don’t think its much to risk…the possible returns are good…it’s a long season…and if I aint in front come March…I will drive your Hackney for you ……nude ….:laugh

I think Raith Rovers will win as well, but I'm not going to be touching it. In the past I've posted previews when Alloa Athletic are one of the teams involved. I was just about to ask you what are you think about Nautico. :)
So, how sure are they?

Put it this way mate…..the price of 2.20 is a reflection of their chances…but I do think we are on an even money shot…..

This is the halfway 20 game point of the season….and the target was 27 points (at this stage)..which (with the same momentum in the 2nd period) would be enough to retain Serie A status…coz at the end 4 teams go down….

They are on 20 points…even if they win today it only puts them on 23…..with a sustained momentum second half of the season…and 1 or 2 more wins – they will probably suvive Seria A….

To lose today and stay on 20 would be a huge blow….they are well up for it….and know they need to win…

Atletico-MG are on 25 points (and gained promotion with Náutico last season as winners of Serie B)…

Just bear in mind I have 4 points on the bet…that’s my level of confidence…..(scale 1 through 10)…

Good luck if you play…

It’s a personal note for me…Matt….

I am trying to be very honest with myself…and most losing bets…….I am quite happy to lose on , coz I know 100% that the bet was good…..it just didn’t happen…..

However, occasionally , I will have a strong sense of that I shouldn’t have taken the bet - the bet was bad…bad decision…….

So the figure represents the points I have lost on BAD BETS …kinda in hindsight…but bets perhaps I shouldn’t have taken……Am I making sense….:yikes:

I'm pretty confident that these irish teams who have a strong rating will come good again. As I said the ratings went crazy for a few weeks, but I'm sure a lot of the losing picks had to do with adverse weather conditions and not entirley the fault of the ratings. My Scottish ratings went through similar bad spell last winter, so its got me thinking about missing certain bets if the weather conditions are not quite right.

Well, they are both at the bottom of the table , M…but Juventude are really bad…….almost certain to be relegated…..

Flamengo will get out of the bad position they are in , notwithstanding they have 2 games in hand over some of the others…..

They should win this home game in Rio…they are in the ascendancy… :yikes:

I will stress…Juventude are chronic….lets hope it goes to the book….

Raith Rovers are probably my best pick from the Scottish 2nd Division, and should be good enought to take the 3pts against Cowdenbeath.

Airdrie Utd v's Queen's Park? The form suggests Queen's Park should play well? I really don't think they will win. Airdrie Utd have had a lot problems recently, but the clubs future was secured this week when there ground was bought by a consortium, with this good news I think the clubs performance on the park will improve.

My club Ayr Utd have had a terrible start to the season, and they really need to get some much needed points today, as the club mentioned in the local papers they can't let the league leaders get to far infront so early in the season, so i'll take a chance on an Ayr Utd win today.

Another bet I like the look of is in the Premier League game at Easter Road. I think i'll go for Hibs to beat Aberdeen, Hibernian are a strong attacking team at home, so they might be worth a look at as another home win. I should get a good price in this match.

In the 3rd Division I'm going to take Stenhousemuir to beat East Stirling, although East Stirling have had some good results recently, I think they will find it hard against Stenhousemuir today.

The Scottish first Division has been my betting graveyard for years ;fire This Division is so unpredictable as most of the teams in this league are good enough to beat each other. My tip for this division is to stay away...:yikes: This league is not for me, but if you must have a bet in Division One? I would take Morton to win at home against Hamilton.

Good Luck with your bets Guys, I'm away fishing again.....:D

Finn Harps are winning 3-0, that win helps my bank a bit, but my day will turn out a lot better if Cobh can get a winner in the last 15 mins. I know how your feeling just now with your bets, for some reason my strong picks seem to be falling quicker than Arjen Robben in a penalty box. They have a new manager and basically a new squad. The fans were hoping for a good season but got off to a bad start but they nearly won away last week and a win today should give them a boost. I would think they will get us a few winner this season.

Another Scottish team that i might start betting is Stranraer in the 3rd Division, but i'll only bet on them if they are playing at home, as other teams have to travel one hell of a distance to get there.
They should get a few wins on their own patch.

I was lucky enough to recoup losses on the Everton draw.

LA played without almighty Beckham... :)

Well, what is more certain for tonight game...
Cork to win with handicap or 1-1?
I'm totally sure that they will win, they are in form, they have 2 games to play, and result of Bohemians and St.Patrick are going very well for them. If they win this 2 games they can be second on table...
So...it's now or never for them.

monty
27th August 2007, 16:02
Maxyserb....I agree with everything that you said in your post, Cork City should be able to win this match tonight. The price for a home win is kind of poor if you ask me, it's that poor I honestly wouldn't touch it.
I would rather take the handicap bet or bet over 2.5 goals in this game.

MaxySerb
27th August 2007, 16:13
Yeah...I don't like to play values under 1.6 either...
Will see...I have to have some cover bet beside this...
Handicap is about 2.5, and 1-1 is 2.15...
I don't like to lose on Half-time so I'll probably take Handicap -1 as a main bet.

monty
27th August 2007, 16:58
I've noticed that both clubs have quite a few players out injured, so with so many first team regulars out? I'm going to be betting on Over 2.5 goals as my main bet. I also noticed that 4 out of the last 6 matches between these two sides ended up going Over 2.5 goals
Cork City have won 6-0 and 3-0 in there last two home matches against BrayWanderers.

So a bet on Over 2.5 goals it is for me....:D

Good Luck with your bet MaxySerb...:thumbs

MaxySerb what website to you get your info on for the Irish games? I normally use this one.

http://www.irishfootballonline.com/news/7208.html

MaxySerb
27th August 2007, 17:51
Well...I have several sites for that informations. That one is very good. Normally, when I'm taking some serious single, I like to visit official club sites also...
For Irish football I'm using that one.

Colm Carroll (Cruciate Knee Ligament) will not be involved as he remains sidelined by injury, although he has now returned to taking an almost full part in training. Liam Kearney was substituted with a knee injury against Waterford and is rated as doubtful for the clash, while Sean Kelly (knee) and Gareth Farrelly (Groin Strain) are both also struggling with injuries.

monty
27th August 2007, 17:55
Maybe I should forget the overs bet, I've just noticed that there has been 4 games played this season in the Irish Premier League, when the home team has been priced @ 2/5 (1.40) of these 4 games the home side won 3 of the matches and the other match ended a draw, and all 4 games were under 2.5 goals..... :yikes:

We must be due an overs then...:D

MaxySerb
27th August 2007, 18:26
:D

Yeah...

Well, I have picked this. Alea iacta est!

Cork - Bray 1-1 at 2.15 - 6e
Cork - Bray X-1 at 4.50 - 5e
Cork - Bray Cork to win with (-1) at 2.50 - 5e

I hope that those two last will pass... :D

monty
27th August 2007, 18:32
I'll stick with the original overs bet and the -1 handicap, and hopefully they will both come in and it will start my week off on a more positive side. Last weeks bets were very poor, they seemed to go 1 winner 2 losers if you know what I mean....:splapme

The low price on Cork tonight put me off the straight win bet, I had thought about putting this match forward for a Monty bet, but i just didn't like the low price. If the Cork City price had been anything over 1.53 I probably would have taken it.
Last week Bray-W had an away match against Derry -C and in that match Derry-C were a much bigger price than what Cork were tonight ,yet there were only 4 points of a difference between Cork and Derry in the league. I honestly didn't think Cork were any better than what Derry were at home, so I had thought I would have got a similar price as last weeks game. It's strange how the bookies work out their prices out at times.

Merlin when I get that same problem I usually take 2-3 days off and away from betting, I do this mainly because if I don't take the time off, I usually end up placing stupid bets that I normally wouldn't touch.
Take the time to look up some bets than are being played later in the week, find at least 10 good matches and from that 10 narrow it down to 2-3 teams that you think will definately win? and then start betting again with your chosen picks.

Merlin....Your not the only one mate whos been in that dark tunnel, we all go through bad spells. A few weeks ago I placed 5 singles, my bets consisted of 4 home wins and the other match I had taken for a draw. The 4 home matches all ended up drawing and guess what the one i took for a draw ended up as a home win. :headbange I honestly thought about giving up betting when that happened.

1) Stop visiting expensive massage parlours...
2) Set your bank up and dont touch it for other things...
3) Either divide your bank into level stakes....or bet no more than 3% of it per bet...

I know that we all have differnt circumstances, but to have any chance of making money long term you got to have A separate betting bank – which doesnt prejudice other areas of your life…

You don’t have to start with a lump sum…you can pay in to your betting bank each week or month….

You know it makes sense….:laugh…..

You are of course correct merlin..i do have a ringfenced betting bank...but not a huge one (principally so that it DOESNT impact the rest of my life). I would say I usually have about £100 in play, the problem being that 3% of this would make my max bet £3. Hard to get anywhere with that sort of staking limit.

So I will generally put large percentages of my bank on single selections...my max bet is around £40 but average around £20...and therefore do run the risk of a bad run wiping me out quickly.

I also think this month, because I was skint in my real bank account...i took some big risks with my betting account to try and get enough cash to withdraw to live off...and of course when you NEED to win you rarely do :ermmm

There are League Cup games being played in Scotland tonight, and one tie that looks a good price to me is Hamilton Accies from the Scottish 1st Division, who are playing away at Berwick Rangers from the Scottish 2nd Division.

Berwick Rangers got thumped 4-0 by my club Ayr Utd on Saturday, and by all accounts from my fellow Ayr Utd supporters, they said Berwick Rangers were the worst team that they had seen Ayr Utd playing against in years.

On another Internet forum the Berwick-R fans couldn’t understand why their team played son bad, they said it should have been into double figures.
It's a different story for Hamilton Accies who had a fine 2-0 away win against Morton on Saturday. Hamilton Accies are currently sitting top of the Scottish Division 1 with 4 wins from 4 matches.

Some of you might remember that just a couple of weeks ago, I tipped Hamilton Accies to get beat at home in the Cup by my team Ayr Utd and they did lose that match, which came as a shock to some people, but not to me. The reason for this defeat was because that game was in the Scottish Challenge Cup (Known by fans to be the Mickey Mouse Cup of Scotland) The match tonight is the Scottish League Cup and all the teams still in this Cup will be taking the games more serious. The winners of this match tonight could end up with a big money spinning tie against the Old Firm in the next round, so there is plenty to play for.
I would imagine both clubs will be trying hard for the win tonight and Berwick-Rangers surely can’t play as bad as they did on Saturday (or can they?). Well I'm going to side with Hamilton Accies tonight, as I think this is a good price for a full-time outfit, playing against a team who are currently part-time, so my money will be going on the Away win, as I think Hamilton Accies will be to strong on the night, well I hope so .... :D

Take Hamilton Accies to win 1.83 @ Coral ....(merlin this is not a monty bet)

As you know I’m not really one for placing too many bets in one day, but I’m thinking about doing a few tonight. I’m going to take Over 2.5 in the Hamilton game, as well as betting the straight win. I've been looking at the Celtic v's Spartak Moscow match as well. Celtic have a very, very good record on their own ground. I think Celtic are good price tonight.

Another possible home win that I've been looking at is in the French League the match is between Le Mans v's PSG
PSG seem to be having trouble scoring goals just now, they have drawn 4 out the 5 matches played so far, and they have only managed to score 2 goals in those games. I'm a little bit concerned about the amount of draws PSG have earned this season, so for this match I'm going to play it on the safe side, and take Le Mans (1.67) with the Draw No Bet Option at Sportingbet.

I don't have an account with Bet Direct, but you can get a slightly better price with them on the Asian Handicap Le Mans (0) priced @ (1.72) I think that's works out just the same as the draw not bet? but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Skittle

I can see where you’re coming from with the Motherwell game, but lower Division teams in Scotland always, always try a lot harder in the Cup games, as they are always hopeful of getting a big tie against Rangers or Celtic especially if they get a tie Away from home in the next round.
If they do manage to draw one of the big two teams? The money they will earn from the fixture will be unbelievable, plus the extra money from any live TV. The Cup games in Scotland are probably the only way the smaller clubs will earn extra revenue, so beware mate Raith-R might play a lot better than you think?
On paper you're probably right going for Motherwell, but its one match I would rather avoid.

Dundalk should be a winner tonight, but I'm leaving them alone until they get a bit of form back. I've gone for Blackburn -2 on the Asian instead @ 1.87. There doesn't seem to be much else, and I'm not trawling through all the UEFA Cup games where I can't even pronounce half the teams.

Fingers crossed for Liverpool's draw in the CL leagues. From a purely selfish point of view I want Slavia, Rosenborg or Shakhtar from pot 4. I need a trip away for a few days and it would be a good excuse to go. Slavia now have Smicer back in their team and Prague is my favourite city. Rosenborg will do as I haven't got Norway stamped in my passport. Shakhtar sounds great, middle of nowhere and I loved the Ukraine when I went to Kiev a few years ago. Fingers crossed.
