Hello everyone,

Joined today, so I'm just saying hello. I'm a newcomer to horse racing, although I've punted on stocks, commodities futures, and forex in my time. Seems to me that all the speculative markets have pretty much the same structure; (1) the Big Boys who dominate the market and make money (2) the Insiders who trade on privileged information and also make money (3) the Professionals who are analytical in their approach and see the market as a long term rational investment opportunity and who deal in systems and statistics. They can also make money. (4) the Parasites, who don't themselves play the market, but who are essential to keep new generations of players being sucked in to replace the burned-out Losers who are obliged to retire from play. They are mostly marketing specialists who make a living from selling tips and systems that are guaranteed to make every novice rich. Among this group are a very few honest and ethical people who provide invaluable help that allows some novices to survive and occasionally to prosper against all the odds. Finally, (5) the great majority of the market players - the Losers - who act on impulse, hunch, instinct, greed, and fear, and who provide the money that allows the other four groups to profit. Without the Losers there could be no market!

I hope, through the wisdom and experience of this forum, to learn how to become a Group 3 player in the horse racing market.
