(I know I have the name of this lot right :D)
Their new tune is pretty cool too. Rockstar it's called. A lot has been made of the video for it but I have only seen it once or twice and can't remember it in that much detail. But I do like the song. Probably my favourite new tune out at the mo

Don't listen to him Sam...
He has clearly overheard the conversation of someone in work
and posted it word for word on here in order to make himself seem
remotely fashionable! :D

I watched the video online earlier. I can see why it's been getting a lot of press coverage given the number of cameo appearances in it

It was just about the only thing they did I think wasnt it? I went to see Simple Minds in 1989...it was the day Man City beat Man Utd 5-1, I remember cos I was cryting on the coach :ermmm and Gun were the support...they were pretty good.

As for the Simple Minds support, keeping it in the family as one of the Gun member's was Jim Kerr's brother I think it is

I saw Gun around 10 times in Glasgow... they were a great band, very classy rock. There were a few good bands around Scotland back then... Slide, Del Amitri, The River Detectives, Blue Nile, Goodbye Mr McKenzie (with a young Shirley Manson of Garbage), Runrig (still going strong), good memories of that lot in concert.
(and no I don't think the sickly Wet Wet Wet, Deacon Blue or Hue and Cry are worthy of inclusion in that list)

You know I could just envisage you there bigc singing a long to 'Love is all around' with a lighter in your hand.....obviously to set fire to the stage I may add!! :laugh
Yeah I like Del Amitri...apart from the scottish football song they did in 98! :yikes: Deacon Blue could sound quite good when you were out on a night out and hammered you know! :) Mind you...so could the theme tune from the Wombles!

Love and regret was one of my favourites of theirs, and chocolate girl, when will you - ok I like Deacon Blue.
Wet wet wet on the other hand are WET and I never got into Hue and Cry.
Simple Minds were fantastic and their newer stuff is still good.

Nah, sorry mate, I could see why they were so popular but to me they really too representative of the insipid pop/rock that was around during that era. Danny Wilson - there was another of that sort... Prefab Sprout... I'm gonna spew now with all this sugary nonsense :yikes:
Simple Minds... I absolutely love the really early stuff... up to and including New Gold Dream, but then American success beckoned and we got 'Don't You Forget ABout Me'. Yeuch. I did go see them in around 1988... one of only 3 gigs I've ever left half way through, they were boring. All the good old songs were being stretched, but not excitingly as a Led Zep would do..., this was just plain yawnsome. Only Other band I walked out of was Big Audio Dynamite. Love the albums but live they were awful... as was Joe Strummer - the last one I left early. That was late 80's as well.

Simple Minds still making good albums.....I agree Sam. 050505 is good....Dolphins is a very good track.I actually dont like their really early stuff...actually like Street Fighting Years probably the best....Live in the City of Light is good as well. They were superb when I saw them in 89....probably in their pomp then.

I don't know their really early stuff.
Big C liked them upto New Gold Dream, but that was the first album I got, then onto once upon a time etc.
Street Fighting Years was the last one I got ( apart from the greatest hits one - glittering prize ? ) I didn't like it at first but it grew on me with tracks like Belfast Child and Mandela Day .
I borrowed a couple of their newer ones recently and was surprised how good they still are.
Unfortunately I don't have any of theirs at all now they have all been lost along the way.

I went to see Simple Minds at Rock City in 1981. Absoflippinglutely blooming brilliant. They were neck and neck with U2 at one time, in my opinion, for best band. U2 kept doing thier own stuff, but Simple Minds just seemed to regurgitate the same stuff and drifted away. I've not heard any of thier new stuff. I'll give it a blast.

You are right Sparky . They were the first two bands I really got into in a big way.
