i havent and never have had any dealings with t-mobile but this morning i recieve two sim cards and top up cards through the post, a bit taken aback i phone them up but they can't give me a reason why they sent them to me, i'm not being billed for anything so i'm not that bothered but has this happened to anyone else is it a new marketing ploy, any clues???

It's probably a marketing tool. You use their sim card and the 'free' minutes (if there are any). They are hoping that either your concience gets you to at least top up with the same amount you just got for free or better still, don't bother swapping back - after all, "they're all the same at he end of the day...."

Use them, and then send them back :)
