Forum Update Coming Soon

I've updated my other main forum this week to vBulletin version 4.2, from 4.0.5 the same as this one: Filipino Forum

I haven't done any updates for well over a year, but a number of reasons means I'll have to upgrade this one next week.

Not much is really that different, it's more under the bonnet stuff such as security, better DB management, etc, but it also has a few extra bells and whistles, the main one that will be a great help to this forum is the 'Advanced' editor now contains buttons for easily inserting tables :thumbs

It also has a much better mobile interface as around 15% of my traffic now comes from smartphones.

One other great feature is the Auto-Save. This works in the 'reply' boxes, so if your computer crashes, or you get logged out, close the browser by accident, you can recover the reply :smile:

Yeah, that's always been an issue here.

You've just reminded me to test cut'n'paste of tables on the other forum :thumbs

....(tick tock) ...... just tested it ..... bloody great it is, just cut'n'paste and then you can adjust it and change the properties :thumbs You can even do it with Excel files :smile:

I don't like the sound of this.

The last time I tried to put a table onto a pc, the table leg went through the screen.

Probably explains your typo's then as you can't see what you are writing :wink:

Forum update will take place AM this Tuesday. It takes less than an hour so the forum will be closed for posting at that time. However it will take a few days to update all the templates and correct a few things that are returned to default, but overall you will not notice that much difference at the front end after the first few hours :smile:

The forum sctipt update is now complete, however I now have to install a number of plugins and merge around 100 templates which will take some time so you will find a lot of forum quirks at the moment. No need to tell me when you find them I know most of them :)

Hmmm... that didn't happen with the upgrade on the other forum, but as long as it makes Vegy feel wanted it's OK :)

What's happened to everybody's Rep blobs & stars? :yikes:

Earlier this afternoon I had 4 stars & 4 dark green blobs (as I've had for ages)
I now have been reduced to 3 stars 5 dark green, 5 light green & 3 gold blobs.
What have I done to get that much neg rep!!! :biggrin:

Have some of our reputation 'awards'/comments been deleted somehow?

It doesn't seem to have just affected me. I'm sure other members' rep is lower than it was (even Vegy's).

Is the site still a bit slow Keith or is it my tinternet?

The Rep plugin has been updated as well to work on this vB version, and so it needs a few tweaks under the bonnet to get it similar to the way it was as it now has bronze, silver & gold stars to collect :thumbs

I've been finding (for a few days now) that pages seem to load as quick as ever but then they sit in 'refresh' mode for what seems ages. Until it finishes refreshing it makes it difficult to scroll up/down.

I think the adserver issue on the server may be slowing it down a touch, but the new code is a bit faster, and my Quick Reply box is behaving itself now, it wasn't in the older version.

It's painfully slow for atm Ada, takes a while after clicking a thread and then as you say to load the whole page.

I can easily update the number of processors and memory. Currently it has 8 CPU's but I can shift it up to 14 if needed.

Seems fine for me today. Now to check if my table appeared from yesterday :laugh
