    Ada's Bank Holiday Weekend Workout

    If you need some mental stimulation over the weekend, then try and solve my mathematical 'sum'.

    RULES:
    Each of the ten letters represent the ten numbers 0 through to 9.

    Substitute the letters with their corresponding numbers to come up with the correct answer to the sum.

    Good Luck

    Ada.

    Hi Ada,

    I am on the way to cracking this. Hours and hours of work.

    So far I have derived a few things, and was ever so close to cracking it the other night but then realised I'd gone wrong.

    I'll keep going... so please don't post the solution, yet. :)

    Thanks.

    I think I've got it now so I'll refrain from putting my "solution" up just at the moment :)

    Here's my solution. No peeking if you don't want to know:

    1 = H
    2 = Y
    3 = T
    4 = E
    5 = I
    6 = W
    7 = F
    8 = N
    9 = O
    0 = G

    so 984 + 8584 + 364832 + 75732 = 450132<!--EndFragment-->
    <!--EndFragment-->:)

    I haven't looked Glos. Well ok, I have. Highlighted Text --> But only to make sure you got T = 0, and you didn't... The way I saw it, T had to equal 0 for E of EIGHTY to remain the same value throughout. If T !=0 then E + the value of T would change E, thus, E would not be static.

    Yes? No? Maybe?

    Definitely a no ------> T cannot possibly = 0. Neither can O, N, F or E....in the western hemisphere we don't use a leading zero!

    Glos,

    I have to hand it to you.....your answer is correct. Well Done.

    How long did it take you, honestly.

    It took me hours, probably about 3 & a halfish, if I add up the time I took on every attempt I had at it.

    Want another one?

    Ada.

    Well done Glos, by the way. :D

    But --> I still can't understand why T is not zero. I want to put your answer into the equation myself Glos, but that'd be me admitting to defeat, and I'd rather crack it than let it crack me.

    Edit --> It's ok, understand now, because you carry the 1 from the previous column.

    John,
    Regarding the letter 'T'
    'TWENTY' has to be a 'proper' number ie 246728, it can't have a leading zero... 046708. We don't write numbers like that.

    It took me about....well, 5 minutes or so once I'd put my mind to it! I could do another one, yes

    Understand now guys (thankyou) I just didn't understand it when Glos posted above ('..in the western hemisphere we don't use a leading zero!'). :)

    Stop using white letters.

    It's hard to have a battle of wits when your opponent is unarmed.

    I think "He IS Google" would be more accurate.
