    Grrrr...

I finally decided to treat myself to a decent camera and ordered the Sony DSLR-A200 with lens kit for around £270 off amazon. Using the 'bought with' offer, I also picked up a memory card for it - which is arriving seperately (It's like waking up on Christmas morning to a remote controlled car and finding out that there are no batteries for it!!).

I decide that I'll probably need more than one card anyway and head off to Argos where I find the same camera in the catalog and check (and double check) that I have the correct memory card - at almost £60, I wasn't going to cock that one up.

Unfortunately, meetings all afternoon mean that I can't get back to my toy until I get home.

I even did the full reading of the quick start guide (I'm sure the full manual will be useful one day), and piece together all the necessary bits. Last thing to install is the memory card...

...which needs a Compact Flash adaptor :splapme

I now have to buy the adaptor because I can't even use 'fit for purpose' as an excuse to take the memory card back because it is a Sony card that is actually recommended for the camera!!

You usually get adaptors included!! Or is it, the more you pay the less you get?

You're not having much of a good week are you Oldham! :(

Typical - and no doubt the adaptor will need something else... like a flash protection device or something equally absurd.

Anyway, at least when you're fully up and running you will have one heck of a kick ass camera. :D

I have just been pricing up lenses: 500mm lens with a 2x teleconverter - UK prices £535 and £240 respectively - US (both, including FedEx delivery) £100. Glad I checked before ordering them!!!

The kit comes with an 18-70mm lens and I have also got a 70-300mm lens on order. Add in the telephoto jobby and I reckon I've got a decent starter kit. After using point and click digital cameras for so long, you get used to settling for mediocre photos - with this sort of kit, you can really screw things up by using all the wrong settings

(PS It does have an auto-everything button on it just in case!)

Sounds tasty indeed, especially when you consider what was available for those sort of prices only 4 or 5 years ago.... you going to be using it for a spot of 'bird watching' then ? :wink
