The only word of caution I have is that if you are putting on a 'trial version', you will either have to pay for it (October, I think) or remove it when the trial expires...removing it means re-formatting your system (or at least the partition or drive you installed it to) - so be careful!

The previous 'demo' version of Vista did not allow you to upgrade it to the full version.

I have it and I hate it as my laptop has all but rejected every driver I had installed for the Acer installed hardware - I am going back to Vista, which I didn't like that much either but eventually got used to it. Overall, my desktop with XP on it, is by far the most stable of all 4 of our computers.

I've never understood the attraction of bestiality but looking back over my life it does appear as though I married a cow, lived with a moose, been out with at least 5 dogs and spent a lot of time being chased by whales.

As W7 hasn't been officially released yet I'd not expect 3rd parties to have drivers ready yet.

Oddly, Acer do have some drivers ready but not enough so it was a waste of time signing up as a beta user.

As with most operating systems, it is probably wise to wait until it has been in use 6 months before upgrading - unless like my wife you have Linux which is universally useless.

:D It's more a server OS than a home user one.

Why do they put it on laptops? It's not compatible with so many programs.

Fair enough ... but there should be an attached health warning

"likely to make you extremely irritable when you discover nothing is compatible"

I cannot get it to connect wirelessly to my HP printer, so my wife has to either plug it in or save whatever she wants printed onto a stick and take the stick to the desktop.

She doesn't get peed off with me at all!!!

ah ... but I don't have a "ahem" valid copy of windows except the recovery one for my Vista laptop but that is tailored to my Acer, so it might completely up her laptop.

going back to the point of this thread I could use the Windows 7 beta I have but given all the moaning I have done about that I might as well just get a dvorce lawyer sorted out now.
