It should be safe to assume that Bated Breath ran to his mark of 108 while breaking the track record here but while carrying the same weight & on only his second start, Charles The Great, was not far behind in taking the juvenile equivalent - this little technique worked fine with Strong Suit last year - and the weight-for-age scale at this time of year gives the 2yo anything up to 23lb over his elder but can't see him reversing the form with North Star Boy though but can see him landing a pattern class race during this season.
Or perhaps a Wetherbys Super Sprint even - shame he was only my 2nd top rated but he was the only Crse Rec breaker in the field

I've not done the figs for today yet & Frankel may well now be the highest ever BHB rated but he didn't do anything special on the clock yesterday - this filly so far is going to earn 'time of the meet/festival' for me:

I think the ground must have dried out on Meeznah's day as in the end Frankel comes out as Champion the Wonder horse.

Here's an interesting one as Primevere, yesterday broke track record at Salisbury but had previously, first time out as a 2yo taken a track record at Kempton - the mark she got from me yesterday is now the same as the former Kempton track record holder:

Found this one slightly unbelievable at first glance but concluded it was a hot little race that should throw some winners - I've given 149 - which for the winner is 35 ahead of his official mark & all the way down to the 12th (but especially the 3rd, Consult, youngest in the field & kept up with the pace throughout) could prove looking out for in future:

What an anti-climax that turned out!

Got all excited to hear Masked Marvel had broke track record but there were only two races run on the round course & both turned out as course records - the interesting one really for the notebook would be Nocturnal Affair who was the only one to breach standard on the softer straight course?

We not had many juvenile track records go this season so far & I haven't at this stage got a lot of hope for this one, there can't be many 2yo races over a mile & the last one to hold this didn't win much & peaked at around 88 OR

There had to be one yesterday didn't there? Just wasn't the race I thought & I think Deacon Blues ran just as well as the ground on the straight course was slower but

4:10 - Qipco Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) (Group 1)

I'm afraid there has been another omission - don't know whether I was too busy or because it was lowly Folkstone [carried 10 stone & rated 69] I didn't pay it much heed but what a little story unfolding here - this is the Racing Post Analysis from last week:

"HUNT BALL arrived looking the most-improved chaser of the season having made it 5-6 for the campaign at Huntingdon last weekend. He was upped to a mark of 127 after that and thus was a whopping 58lb higher than when initially winning back in November. He was still expected to take this rise in class in his stride, with connections intent on getting him qualified for a handicap at Cheltenham next month, and going to the trouble of booking Barry Geraghty. The 7yo´s jumping was not so clever early on, but he was much more assured as the race went on and it was clear four from home he was in control. Geraghty confidently sent him on in the home straight and he produced a mighty leap at the last. The winner has two options at the festival, both over this trip, and another likely rise for this should ensure he takes his place there. He acts on any ground, is clearly still ahead of the handicapper and it certainly wouldn´t surprise to see him go in again next month as that track shouldn´t pose him many problems."

Crazy! Hunt Ball - starts the season on 69 & yesterday got 164 from me & now they're talking next year's Gold Cup! It's possible he may be the most improved chaser in one season ever...

But there were two recent course record breakers to win at Cheltenham Tuesday, Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle too...

& God knows what the ground would be like without all the watering, the last 3 times a race has been run over this CD the record been broken & yesterday by 10 seconds, meaning the track record for 31f is now faster than that for 32f... Could have been a good run by Philip Hobbs' horse being only an 8yo but nothing to rate against, gave 155?

We had a nice obliger in Son Of Flicka [bit confusing as came at a time when loads of course records were going at Worcestor summer 2010] 16/1 on the Weds & a 33/1 2nd in Exmoor Ranger Thursday

We have Kauto (King George coulpe of years back) vs Long Run (CD last year & last time at Newbury) & Nick Luck's charity bet this morning?

Will be doing an updated list of most recent record breakers perhaps end of season.

Will most definitely doing a list ASAP as I fluffed up here missing recent course record breaker, Attaglance, who won the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockey's Handicap Hurdle.

I was gutted about this race as I had a strong fancy for Hobbs' Big Easy & pretty much ignored it when I saw he wasn't running but I knew I had another noted for the race but couldn't remember [even though I had him high-lighted as the only runner who had this as his Big Race Target]

So when I scrolled down my ratings for the race to find the winner [he was 14th top?], I'm nearly in tears to read:

    Attaglance – nr fresh, XoM PB Crse Rec [by 2.50s & 0.50spf clr] 146+ 43dys 19gs Mar Ras 'MP cj's Chelt a poss?] Feb 12 - DP = 1-4-12-7-0 (24) DI = 0.85 CD = -0.04 154 20/1

I suppose Ikorodu Road's would be the most significant, he ran the furthest & took just as much, more than 4 seconds off the previous, and beat the most long-standing record (that of old Topsham Bay & could be a pointer to the Whitbread/365?).

Seems like they could do with some water/rain at Newbury, track records been broken at the last 3 meets so these might not hold much significance?

[Have also included Tante Sissi's race, as while she didn't break a record, she clocked bigger figs than two of them?]

"The ground appeared quicker than the previous day, with Tony McCoy confirming it to be "drying all the time". The rails were in and the course was at its tightest configuration, leading to several course record times on the day."

Not sure how significant a run this was but 6 seconds off a 9yo record is no bad feat - not easy to weigh up though as only two chases on card & chase course riding much faster than hurdle & I doubt that 11yo donkey in 2nd improved that much but fine young chaser at the right end of the handicap & likes fast ground:

Most typical, no sooner than the Racing Post lower their standard for the distance (in this case 5 seconds) along comes a race that takes 11 seconds off the old course record & puts a spanner in your works - still relatively new though, Ascot. Was the only course record of the day & the first two finished well clear....

I was wondering why Haydock had so many standard times for its hurdle races & yesterday, Grandads Horse pops along & helps me finalise my standard setting on the spreadsheet as of course, those Fixed Brush hurdle races should have their own standard - life makes sense again...

Well, for a short time anyway, htf Bradley managed to earn a TopSpeed figure from the Racing Post of '71' is beyond my understanding - he hasn't ran below 130 in his 4 runs this year by my reckoning but

Makes a bit of a mockery of the Dosage Index this one & more of a testament to the ability of the trainer, who like the trainer of the second, Mark Johnston, Nick Mordin says, 'has a canny knack of being able to get a horse to outstay his or her pedigree,' but

Well that didn't last long did it? Should never have been favourite today imho, classic case of being thrown in the deep end upped to Group company from a handicap to find out how good he is. He'll have a better chance in pattern class when he comes back off a bigger break is my guess.

Interesting again here, making debut for new yard, another ex-Mark Johnston horse (I reckon they were profitable to follow over in Dubai this last winter at least) takes nearly 3 seconds off the recent record. Hometown Glory

Had a word for Hometown Glory today, as been working well at home since his debut run where he tired late in race. My bet will staked accordingly, if i can get each way and show profit then i will be happy.

Here's another good one the last track record breaker here was a 5yo in Oct 10 won 4 times since including twice again this year but today a 3yo & what with 3yo weight for age allowance comes out as easily pattern class possible & only 4th start for a trainer who has a habit of producing quality sprinters, like Tangerine Trees & Our Jonathon -

& you don't often see that comment, 'blitzed clear,' in the race notes - a sprinter to follow for sure [was also put up as such by today's jockey Tom Eaves in a Weekender interview last year], especially when fresh though not sure yet?

Sire is having a field day on the AW but stats improve 5-9f gd/st or better & AW
