    Daily waffle 9th December

Worst day for a few weeks today on the figures but could've been worse if Lithaam had won at Kempton in the 6.20.

    Backs 7/18 -0.57pts
    Lays 4/5 -6.20

Lay'em, NHPM, CD Lays & Ladys lays. I am paper testing nearly everything th for a while until I know what to drop and what to keep, about 22 systems in all. Only began on 13th November but I want to run all of them for a good 200 bets or so to see how they are going.

I like the cut of your Jib Scooby.

There is no rush in his game, the races just keep coming day after day, year after year.

Im just live with the NHPM and layem at present. Paper trading a couple of others and will build it up slowly like i have done in the past.

Yes I think it is the sensible thing to do, Mat has given me some good advice and I am doing everything as if the money is going down. Hopefully it'll teach me to deal with the swings in bank balances and moods! :) Even though I am paper testing, it all feels very real and I do it as if I am putting money down, so even that will serve me well I think in the future. I will look at my banks at about the start of the flat season I think by which time I will know much more about the systems, good and bad.

I remember that old daily diary TH. Used to enjoy reading that back when I was just starting to get into systems. I seem to remember you had those massively in profit. Good to see you and your diary back :)

Yep, the pro-losers diary days - from a £200 start bank just like my new banks. I can remember having to get betfair to up my exposure limit as 10K was not enough when i bunged them on at lunchtime. Was well over five figures profit at one stage and even though I dipped towards the end I was thousands up.

It will take longer than three or four years to get to that level as there are fewer selections doing just the two systems, but if things go well in year one I will add to portfolio with some of the systems im paper trading.

The same principles apply now as then. The figures are smaller right now but if anything im doing it with more caqre and attention to stats with regards to overlay than i did then.

Mat is about the most determined and analytic person on here I think - If anyone can make a go of it he can.

I still have my weaknesses and am trying to start again and learn again with the small banks. I think i will always be a gambler so at the age of 38 I should have 40 or more years left. The theory is the same and i want to put it to the test again as those years were so much fun.

That big winning lay on the Lay'ems was frustrating but winners happen and when the stakes go up so do the losses when they come. I am still learn to deal with that a bit. With laying you don't notice the steady drip-drip-drip of profits come in sometimes and tend to focus more on the losses as they are the big hits. I know I am staking sensibly and that the Lay'em bank has grown organically (for the most part anyway) so it can absorb losses like yesterday but I still feel like I have been given at least a small kicking when I have days like I did yesterday. All part of developing the mental toughness needed to ride out the swings though. I try to treat winning and losing equally as much as possible - I don't get too excited about big wins so that I won't feel too down about equivalent sized losses. It's all part of the game, and as TH says the game keeps going and we can expect to be in it for many, many years yet.

The backs had a rough old day yesterday too, although I had a near miss with a 20/1 selection (10/1 SP) going down by a neck at Kempton. So close...

    W2W Systems: 1 from 6, down 3.50pts
    W2W Lays: 5 from 6, down 5.45pts
    Other: 14 from 31, down 5.59pts
