He's a waste of space.. his voice is shot, and he's on planet fecknowswhere.. the band are a joke, to me Slash is the spirit of GNR, and should have the name.. sad thing is, I do love the albums, even Chinese Democracy is very good, though not quite worth the wait.

My keyboard's running out of ink....

I watched the highlights yesterday on the BBC reading site and it was like watching a tribute band to me. His voice didn't sound that great tbh. What got me is that a number of the members look like clones of the original line-up, but there will only be one Slash yes. It is sad that he continues to take the piss out of the fans.

Slash autobiography is a great read and gives a good insight into the G'N'R split. Every member apart from Rose of G'N'R now talk and feature on one anothers albums, shame he is such a as it would be a fantastic reunion but because of him will never happen

I really will have to have a better listen to Chinese Democracy now, will later. I can remember when Appetite came out in '87 and just being blown away at how good it was for a first album, the quality of the songs are amazing imo. I'm still not sure what Slash did to Axl to make him despise him so much, do you know Tony...does the book say anything?

Slash blames it on Axl being a control freak going of my memory after the first album the band would record the songs for Use your illusion without axl then the recordings would be sent to a different studio where Axl would pull them to bits and change eveything. also Slash hated the way Axl treated Addler without consulting any of the band. Big musical differences as well as Slash hated the ballads direction and wanted just a blues band. Axl lost control of the band near the end and hated the glory Slash was getting.

    Well worth a read

Might have to read that then. Addler was sacked for drugs wasn't he, allegedly? I can remember years ago Axl's feud with Warren Beatty...bet he has fallen out with everyone about him at some point in his life. I know we are all getting older but he sort of looked like Axl's old man on Sunday, not that I have ever seen him like.

Yeah he was sacked for drugs but if i remember right from the book Slash says Axl and his laywer got Adler to sign a document when he was out of his head saying he would get no royalties once he left the band or something like that enventually Adler in a straight and sober period took him to court and won millions. Slash wanted to help Adler with rehab and not totally sack him

This is all from memory after reading the book so dont quote me

Also the song rocket queen well the background noise is actually Axl and his girlfriend having sex in the studio

That sounds good that book Tony, I might have to order myself a copy. I'm currently in the process of selecting books for a 10-day break in Spain so that could make the list

Just googled it as i was sure Slash said it was Axl

Rose brought a woman named Adriana Smith to the studio and had sex with her so that the sounds that Smith made could be recorded and put over the bridge of the song. Steve Thompson, an engineer of the album, said:

Axl wanted some pornographic sounds on Rocket Queen, so he brought a girl in and they had sex in the studio. We wound up recording about 30 minutes of sex noises. If you listen to the break on Rocket Queen it's in there

I was being a Tony it's OK. I too heard it was Axl although you can bet he was late turning up to meet her.

Do you have a 'time allowance', like with your mobile minutes?

Is his voice shot or is it just that he cant be I went to see Guns n Roses 4 years ago in birmingham the week before my mate seen then in newcastle and said he was awful hour and half late and spent more time changing his clothes than singing. When we went he started bang on time played for nearly 4 hours and was joined half way through by Izzy was possibly the best concert ive been to.

Any reports I've heard are certainly saying he just can't hit the notes, and that his voice doesn't sound quite natural, like it's being 'helped' by something... he probably can't be arsed either though!

I was "lucky" enough to get tickets to their gig at the great Hammersmith Apollo back in 2006 and it was a shambles - nearly two hours late coming on, during which the crowd got very restless, and then they were terrible when they appeared (they had THREE guitar players and TWO keyboard players, which is crazy considering how good they were as a five piece back in the Slash days).

It was such an insult to be late not only for the fans but for such a great venue, and showed he had no idea about London - coming on less than an hour before the tube closes showed a real lack of respect for the fans (anyone who has lived in London will appreciate the hoops that have to be jumped through to get home post-tube if you live on the other side of the city).

I left during one of the guitar player's solos (Wayne played better in the music shop segment of Wayne's World ), during which he had to stop playing and wave his hands to encourage the crowd to show their appreciation, so mediocre was it. Sad to see still he hasn't learned that the fans who turn up to see him are deserving of some consideration.

It's not the pace of life that worries me, it's the sudden stop at the end.

I have heard tonight they played in Ireland, turned up 2 hours late and only played 5 songs, don't know how true this is though.

Unbelievable...how dare the crowd be annoyed after a small delay.

Here's how it went from my point of view. I arrived at the O2 at about 8.30, the support act were on stage at the time. They finished at about 9.10 and I believe GnR were due on at 9.45. Not surprisingly, it was even later than this when they finally came on stage, about 10.25. Plenty people in the venue were pee'd off at this stage and let their feelings known by booing.

They kicked off with Chinese Democracy. The booing continued for a bit and I saw plastic bottles and cups being thrown in the direction of the stage with one or two making their way on to the stage. My immediate thoughts were 'this is going to end badly'. There seemed to me to be sound issues during the opening song. Axl's voice was only barely audible which I'd say was down to sound levels more so than his voice. DJ Ashba then kicked off Welcome To The Jungle in the usual way, playing a couple of notes from the opening riff, hands to the ears etc., in order to get the crowd going. This was met with a lot of heat from the crowd, more boos and more cups being thrown. Axl called a halt and said something along the lines of "we want to stay and have some fun" and "one more bottle and we go home". They restarted and played a few oldies and then Sorry from Chinese Democracy. At the end of Sorry Axl said something which I didn't quite hear (I think it was “have a good evening”) and then the band walked off stage (this was about 10.50). I didn't see what triggered the walk off but apparently more bottles were thrown at the band.

Minutes were passing and nothing was happening. Then the promoter came out and appealed for people to stop throwing bottles and said they were trying to get the band to come back out. At about 11.20, much to my surprise and delight, they came back out. At this stage I'd say a couple of thousand people had left the arena. I didn’t hear much booing when they came back and nothing was thrown. A couple of songs in and it was clear Axl did not want to be there. There was no interaction from him at all. He was just standing motionless as he sang. They played out the rest of their setlist finishing off with Paradise City and Axl walked off the stage without a word. I left.

    My thoughts on the night:
Their late arrival didn't really bother me. It's Axl Rose, he's notorious for it and he's never going to change. I'd rather he was on time but as long as they put on a cracking performance then so be it. If people are going to be that bothered with it, don't go. I expected a bit of heat for the band for being late on stage but I was shocked at the level of heat they received. I was embarrassed and disgusted to see cups and bottles thrown at them. It was the act of scumbags. I don't blame them for walking off. I'd probably have done the same.

When they did finally restart, Axl's attitude stank! Apparently he was prevented from leaving the venue by the promoter. I imagine he received all sorts of legal threats. It was obvious he didn't want to be there. As a result, neither did I. I didn't feel compelled to sing or clap. I turned to one of my mates who looked as disinterested as me and said "I wish he hadn't bothered coming back out". He agreed.

I felt sorry for the rest of the band. They are a seriously talented bunch of musicians and they gave it their all but were let down by Axl. I must say, once the early sound issues were sorted Axl's voice sounded amazing, as good as I've ever heard it. It’s annoying as it really could have been an amazing gig, even after the walk off. If only Axl had realised the other idiots had gone home and the ones who stayed deserved to see and hear the best he had to offer instead of a half-assed effort.

I'm a lifelong Guns n' Roses fan. They're my favourite band. Appetite For Destruction is my favourite album. Estranged is my favourite song. I’m disappointed with what happened and I will probably never see GnR live again. At least we still have Slash and hopefully a Velvet Revolver return next year.
