Dubai Tennis Championship - Semi-Finals
1.44 Mikhail Youzhny v Robin Soderling 2.62 Won 7-5 6-2
1.11 Roger Federer v Tommy Haas 6.00 Won 6-4 7-5
All sorts of controvesy in the Tennis Channel Open, James Blake needed to win and not to lose more than 5 games to progress to the quarter finals. At 6-1 3-1 up his opponent Juan Martin Del Potro retired injured. The ATP initially said that Blake was out and that Evgeny Korolev, who had beaten Blake on Monday, was through. A later rethink by the ATP resulted in the decision being reversed and no.1 seed Blake being put through.
Del Potro called the trainer twice and then a doctor allegedly complaining of a cardiac problem :wink . This round robin format is just making the match fixing and 'dives' more obvious to everyone, including, at last, the ATP. I wouldn't be surprised if the format is scrapped in due course.
Despite Del Potro's trianer calls etc this incident stinks to high heaven of the Russian betting mafia and I'm amazed that anyone thought they would get away with this
yeah it really does smell fishy although common sense would suggest that Blake should have been put through in the first place considering he was never ever going to lose 5 games the way that match was going

Shocker of a tournament this one Paul, Federer turned over so easily and lots of faves making an early exit. Maybe the heat has something to do with it. Watched Lubo beat Nalbandian last night and the heat was serious stuff, looked dreadful. There's no shade anywhere, which might explain the pathetic crowds.
On the women's section Sharapova has been knocked out too
