As Ireland's economy is so fragile and their borrowing so huge in today's world, they probably didn't even want to win Eurovision this year as it would be probably too expensive for them to have to host it next year if they won.....hence entering Jedward this year...(I bet they were cacking themselves when the lads became quite strong favourites at one point.)
But seriously, surely it's got to be profitable in the long run for ANY country to win and then host Eurovision......maybe as long as they don't make a habit of winning consecutive years.....because....
....I could be wrong but didn't the same kind of thing happen back in the '90s.....Ireland won Eurovision something like 4 years out of 5, which proved to be so expensive to keep hosting the next event, it nearly brought their TV company RTE to its knees financially, so they purposely fielded naff entries so they could save themselves from more expense.
They should of taken a leaf out of our UK book....we've been doing that for 14 years....it would have saved Ireland millions
